We still have a lot to do to provide the best care possible for our rescued animals. We will deeply appreciate your help to work on our different projects. The total amount of the money received will go for the projects.  We will be glad to send a final statement of the cost of each one once we finish them.

Besides the special projects described, we do have monthly expenditures in food, veterinary salary, medicines, vaccines, building of houses, enclosures and general maintenance of the area.

Special projects:

1. New places for the incoming turtles and tortoises. We have been receiving a lot lately, in all sizes and species.  We need to build new areas to separate both turtles and tortoises by species and size. All areas need running water and vegetation according to the animals natural habitat. The project will cost about 500.-USD.
2. While most of our birds are free (we release them inside La Senda Verde once they grow wings and learn to fly) some of them need to be kept in cages. We just started to build a big cage, about 16 square meters and 4 meters high, to give these birds a better and bigger place. Cost of the project: 800.-USD
3. Food preparation rooms. We will improve the conditions of the actual food preparation room to be the food room for birds. We are making the new food preparation room for monkeys and other animals. Besides the building materials, we are building shelves, connecting water and electricity to the areas, buying digital weight scales, refrigerator, and a small stove.  This is a very important project, and we will be spending 1500.-USD. in building materials, and another 500.-USD in equipment
4. Quarantine area.A 40 square meters building with a reception room and two areas with cages for the new incoming animals. We need approximately 2000.-USD. for building the area, and another 2000.-USD. for water installation, waste disposal, cages, scales and general equipment.
5. Enclosure for capuchin monkeys. We will give them about 10 thousand square meters, with electric fence around the whole perimeter.  Our plan is to divide the whole area at least in 4 parts: for incoming babies with surrogated mothers, 2 for different groups of monkeys, and one as a hallway to access the others, for feeding and cleaning purposes. We estimated the cost of the materials in about 8000.-USD.
6. New enclosure for our margay. We will add to the size of the cage. Because margays are arboreal, it is very hard to make an appropiate “open” enclosure without the risk of escape. Therefore, we will  add a platform or a “second floor” to the cage, to increase the area and to make her feel more comfortable high on the trees. We expect to spend about 500.-USD.
7. Improve Aruma the Bear’s pool. He is too big now for his original pool. He needs a deeper pool. We need to make a cement wall for this. We will invest about 200.-USD.
8. Veterinary clinic. We need a small veterinary clinic, with a necropsy room. We still have to determine the cost of building it and the cost of the equipment.
